Content with A Whisper

Larry Hostetler pulls no punches as he describes the collision of his childhood understanding of God with his developing awareness of the God of the whole world. Content with a Whisper is a candid look into what Christians must sort through as they follow God through the stages of life.

This memoir will help the reader resolve the “disconnects” that so many feel between the God of their youth and the God of their adulthood. Hostetler affirms his childhood passion for God, and values the momentum that gave to his lifetime of service to God.

Studying at Union Theological Seminary, Columbia University, and Vanderbilt University, he engaged the best thinkers of our time including Reinhold Niebuhr, Samuel Terrien. There he developed an understanding of the God of the whole world that still embraced the God of his childhood.

Larry Hostetler founded Chaparral Christian Church in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he continues to serve as the Founding Minister. The loving and faithful members of that congregation give testimony to the reality that God is alive in the church. Hostetler challenges people to search, not for easy answers, but for the more satisfying concept of a God Who insists on being real, not merely popular.

This memoir is disarmingly personal in dealing with the vapid answers of much of Christianity today. At the same time it honors the passion of evangelistic Christianity and invites the reader to look deeper for the God of the Bible who really is an incredible, guiding, loving reality.
